NPORS Training & Experienced Worker Tests (EWT)

NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) training and Experienced Worker Tests (EWT) are designed for plant operators who need recognised certification to work safely and competently within the construction, industrial, and commercial sectors.

At R & J Training Services, we deliver NPORS accredited training and EWT assessments for a wide range of plant machinery. We are based in the North East of England, while offering nationwide coverage across the UK, including on-site assessments at your requested location.

What Is an NPORS Experienced Worker Test (EWT)?

The NPORS Experienced Worker Test (EWT) is suitable for operators who already have previous experience, training, or operational knowledge of a specific machine.

The EWT route allows experienced operators to gain formal NPORS certification without completing full novice training, provided they can demonstrate competence during the assessment.

Operators who do not yet meet the required standard of competence must complete formal NPORS training first — which we also provide.

NPORS Training for Novice & Refresher Operators

If you are new to a machine or require refresher training, we offer full NPORS training courses prior to assessment. This ensures candidates are confident, competent, and fully prepared to meet NPORS assessment standards.

NPORS Certification & Card Types

Upon successful completion of an NPORS EWT or training course, candidates will receive a traditional NPORS Card (Trained Operator), which is valid for 5 years.

This certification is widely recognised and accepted across the construction, industrial, and commercial sectors throughout the UK.

CSCS Logo & NPORS Card Upgrades

Candidates who hold a valid CSCS card (completed within the last 2 years) can apply through NPORS to have the CSCS logo added to their NPORS Red Card.

-NPORS Red Card with CSCS logo: valid for 2 years

-Operators can upgrade to a Blue NPORS Competent Card by completing the relevant NVQ qualification

NPORS Assessment Structure

Each NPORS EWT assessment consists of:

-Theory Test – 25 multiple-choice questions

-Practical Test – Hands-on machine operation assessment

Both elements must be passed to achieve NPORS certification.

NPORS training and EWT assessments are available at the candidate’s requested location anywhere in the UK, helping to minimise downtime and travel costs.
